DescriptionSmall constellation to the south of Carina.

The only remarkable star is eta Volantis, a double formed by a white component of fourth magnitude and by a yellow component of sixth magnitude.


Mythology
and history
The constellation was drawn by the Dutch navigators Pieters Dirkszoon Keyser and Frederik de Houtman towards the end of the XVI century. At first it was called Piscis Volans: it represents the animal of which it has the name.
